I haven't tried Rocket Italian yet but I have used the online classroom RosettaStone from a local school, http://www.communitybusinesscollege.edu and I wouldn't say its approach is "traditional." In fact, I get to use all 30 languages and all levels for what comes out to $15 a month and so the price is very non-traditional. Also, the RosettaStone classroom teaching methods are unlike anything I've done before. It's a very interactive language learning environment, which I like and it has a lot of reinforcement techniques.
As I said, I haven't used Rocket yet but I have used Mavis Beacon when they added all the games and I can tell you from experience although the games look like they are a lot of fun, I can't say it did anything to improve my learning. It was counter-intuitive but I think I found the games, bells and whistles too distracting.
I also like Rosetta for the audio input and audio correction it provides over the Internet. And I can access it from home or at work. I would like to try Rocket some day just to compare but I am really happy with Rosetta.
